Brighton keen to keep White

OPINION

It’s probably fair to say that Liverpool’s transfer policy has been a little unorthodox in recent times.

Whereas their rivals have played to type and spent large amounts of money to bring in top tier talent in a bid to boost their title credentials, the Reds have a taken an altogether more standoffish approach to things.

A grand total of zero senior outfield signings over the summer had some fans up in arms, but a 100% start to the new Premier League season may just have appeased them somewhat.

And while it would appear that Jurgen Klopp will be more willing to spend money in the future, it would seem that he is still intent on upsetting the applecart a little.

According to Football Insider, his side are looking at making a move for Brighton defender Ben White, who is currently on loan at Leeds United.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Championship side this term, averaging 2.4 tackles, 3.3 interceptions, and 3.6 clearances per game, as well as a Whoscored rating of 7.33.

In that respect, he is a real prospect, but in many other ways he is far beneath the status of a player that a Premier League title contender would move for. That’s not to say that he wouldn’t be a good signing, but rather that he would be an unusual acquisition.

But the deal won’t be happening at all if Brighton get their way.

According to The Argus, the Seagulls don’t want to sell at any price, and rather obviously, that could make things difficult for Klopp’s men.

With enough financial persuasion that stance might change, but right now, the Reds are facing an uphill battle.
