International fans hammer Henderson v Czech Republic

OPINION

There’s no arguing with the fact that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson failed to produce his finest performance in England’s 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic on Friday night. It was a strangely subdued performance from the Three Lions in general, as they seemed to be stuck in a malaise for much of the game. Henderson has the unfortunate distinction of being one of those players who fans seem to love to hate. Despite being a Champions League-winning skipper and someone who is adored by his managers, he remains a polarising figure amongst supporters. It was no surprise, then, to see the international supporters take aim at him with things not going England’s way in Prague. To be fair, the 29-year-old didn’t play particularly well. He was playing too deep in the first half, shunted next to Declan Rice and left doing effectively the same job as the West Ham United star. He was better after the break having been given a more advanced role by Gareth Southgate, but this still wasn’t his best outing in a white shirt.
