OPINION
Ben Woodburn’s 2019 appears to be over after it was reported by Goal journalist Neil Jones that the Liverpool attacker has suffered a fractured metatarsal. Woodburn, 19, suffered the blow while playing on loan for Oxford United in their 2-2 draw against Accrington Stanley on Saturday and the Wales international is now set to miss up to three months of action, according to this update. Understandably, some Liverpool fans on Twitter are gutted by the news, especially as Woodburn is someone who has been highly regarded by the fanbase as one of the more promising youngsters in the squad. Although he was sent on loan to League One in the summer after a short loan spell in the Championship with Sheffield United last term, the backwards step has appeared to be beneficial for Woodburn. He made his 13th appearance of the campaign on Saturday but only managed eight total outings for the Blades last term. Hopefully this setback does not see his development stall or see him drop down the pecking order at Oxford.
Rotten luck for Ben Woodburn, who fractured a metatarsal playing for Oxford on Saturday. Out for up to three months. He'd been playing regularly in League One this season.#LFC
