COMMENTARY
Many Liverpool fans no doubt enjoyed the rollercoaster ride that was the 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, especially as it ended with their side winning on penalties, but they didn’t enjoy the performance of midfielder Naby Keita one bit. In fact, one Liverpool fan claimed the central midfielder’s Reds career was basically “finito”, while another revealed they wouldn’t be bothered if he never plays for Jurgen Klopp’s side again. While Keita clearly was far from his best against the Gunners, you have to feel this criticism was over the top. The 24-year-old played 55 minutes of the match and during that time he failed to make any key passes, failed to complete a dribble and even managed to fail to hit the target despite having two shots at goal (Source: WhoScored). However, it’s wrong to write him off as there could be an underlying issue. Klopp revealed after the game that the midfielder may have suffered an injury, as quoted by Liverpool’s official website, which caused him to be withdrawn from the game, and given that it isn’t his first injury in recent times, maybe he wasn’t at the peak of his powers on Wednesday.
