Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell has taken to Instagram to send a message to Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The pair both featured for England during the 7-0 thrashing of Montenegro on Thursday, with Chilwell registering a hat-trick of assists in the first half, and Oxlade-Chamberlain opening the scoring.

And responding to a post on the Ox’s personal account after the match, Chilwell wrote: “What a finish”, followed by a flame emoji.

OPINION

Liverpool must be just about the only side in England who wouldn’t love to have Chilwell at left-back at the moment. The Leicester full-back has been in fine form so far this term, as exemplified by his starring role in last night’s drubbing of Montenegro, but the Reds can rest easy in the knowledge that they can rely on the irrepressible Andy Robertson on the left side of the backline. The Scot has been his usual fantastic self so far this term, registering four assists and a goal in the Premier League already, as well as an average match rating of 7.30, as per Whoscored. He is, without a shadow of a doubt one of the finest full-backs in Europe, and if he keeps this kind of form up then he will surely be a key factor in Liverpool finally ending their decades-long wait for a league title. As for the Ox, he’s doing okay too, with five in his last six, and he promises to be a key player over the remainder of the campaign as well.
