Peter Crouch drooled over Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and admitted he’d pay good money to play with him if he wasn’t retired.

The former Reds forward claimed that Alexander-Arnold was a standout player for Jurgen Klopp’s side and highlighted his passing ability.

Crouch compared the 20-year-old’s passing ability to ex-Liverpool teammates Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard and then suggested that Alexander-Arnold crossed the ball like Manchester City attacker Kevin De Bruyne.

“I’d have paid good money to have played with this lad,” said Crouch on BT Sport 3 (19:45, Tuesday, November 5th).

“Some of the crosses he puts in are just drooly, obviously the full-backs are superb in this team, but him…he’s a standout, he’s a standout player.

“I’ve played with some top passers at Liverpool, Gerrard, Alonso, but he’s right up there.

“He started in midfield in the academy, it’s well-documented, but some of his passes are top-class, the delivery, and some of the delivery comes from positions where he’s not on the byline.

“Some of the deliveries, first first class, it’s De Bruyne like, as he crosses from deep, and whips it across the face of goal.

“And being a striker, you just drool over that delivery.”

OPINION

Crouch has clearly been blown away by Liverpool full-back Alexander-Arnold as he started to gush about him after Jake Humphrey simply referred to the right-back as special. It’s no surprise Crouch has such a high-view of the 21-year-old as you’d struggle to find someone who hasn’t been convinced of his ability. In his 2019/20 campaign so far, Alexander-Arnold has already racked up three assists, as well as scored a goal, in his 11 Premier League outings and has been a thorn in the side of his opponents. The 21-year-old has constantly been a threat in matches, he has averaged an eye-catching 3.6 key passes per game as well as 1.4 shots per game so far, as per WhoScored,  so Jurgen Klopp knows he can rely on him to cause problems. The full-back has also pulled his weight defensively, even if sometimes he gets caught out of position, as he has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per match so far, and any defender would be proud of those stats (Source: WhoScored).
