Liverpool midfielder Fabinho could miss “four to six weeks” through injury, according to the Daily Mail.

The £100,000-a-week ace [Spotrac] picked up an ankle complaint against Napoli in midweek, and was forced off the pitch as a result.

While Liverpool are yet to conduct a proper scan on the knock as they wait for swelling to subside, it is understood that there are fears that it could be quite serious, and that Fabinho could miss as many as 10 matches if those concerns are confirmed.

OPINION

What a kick in the teeth this would be. Fabinho has been absolutely vital to this Liverpool side so far this term, and must be one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet. While nothing is confirmed, there appear to be genuine fears, and it would take a massive slice of fortune for him to escape this one unscathed. With 2.5 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game this season, as per Whoscored, not to mention a pass completion rate of 86.7%, it’s not hard to see why he has become such an important member of this Liverpool side, and replacing him will be no easy task. The likelihood is that Jordan Henderson would drop into a deeper role, but that would be an unwelcome disruption to Klopp’s usual midfield trio, and one that could hardly have come at a worse time, given the congestion of the festive fixture schedule. For now, however, all Liverpool fans can do is wait and hope for an early Christmas miracle.
