Former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince has said that he would rather be managed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp than Manchester City chief Pep Guardiola.

The two Premier League heavyweights go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday, and Ince believes the German’s personality would suit him better.

“Klopp for me,” he told BT Sport. “I think the type of player I was, I think Klopp would probably get more out of me. Klopp’s passionate, he gets through to his players.”

OPINION

It’s an interesting question from Robbie Savage, and one with no wrong answer. That’s because these are arguably the two best managers in world football at this moment in time, certainly in England – although that Chris Wilder’s not bad either, eh? It’s fascinating to get Ince’s take on it. He played under plenty of different managers at Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and the like, and so it’s interesting that he believes Klopp would have suited his style more than Guardiola. Perhaps that’s because he was more of a blood and guts player, a midfield mauler with bundles of technique as well, who likely would have relished the infectious personality of the Liverpool boss. Guardiola is more cerebral, more of a taskmaster, whereas Klopp likely does make things more fun. But you really can’t go wrong with either man, they are as good as it gets in the modern game.
