Scouts have alerted Liverpool to Rangers youngster Joshua Patterson, but they’ll have to move quick to sign him, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Reds are looking at both Patterson and his fellow Ibrox teenager Leon King, who are both rated as some of the brightest prospects in Scottish football.

However, Patterson’s current contract talks with Steven Gerrard’s side could prove to be a spanner in the works. Gers are looking to tie the 18-year-old down on a three-year deal, with his current one set to expire next summer.

They have big plans for the right back at Ibrox, where he is likened by some to former Scotland international Alan Hutton. He can also operate at left back and centre half.

OPINION

Patterson certainly sounds like an extremely intriguing prospect. His ability to play anywhere across the defence, and the comparison to an underrated professional in Hutton, make him sound like somebody the Reds should be doing everything possible to pinch from Rangers. The problem, of course, is that the British giants are hugely keen to keep him, as you’d expect. They are working to get him on that three-year deal as we speak, and so Liverpool will have to do something special to hijack that. They are also looking at King, of course, but he is three years younger and way further away from being first team ready. Patterson would be as well, of course, but he would likely be competing for a first team spot a lot sooner if they both joined the European champions. Ultimately Klopp will probably be happy with getting one of these two in, because you’d think that, because of their age, at least one of them would want to stay in the comfortable confines of Glasgow.
