Ex-Liverpool attacker Luis Garcia has joked that he is available to play for his former club in their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Aston Villa in December.

Liverpool confirmed on Tuesday that they will play back-to-back matches on December 17 and December 18 due to their participation in the Club World Cup and the fact they have reached the last-eight of the League Cup.

Garcia, 41, hung up his boots three years ago but has taken to his personal Twitter account to put his name in the hat for when Jurgen Klopp names his squad for the Villa match.

“I’m free if needed,” said the former Spain international, who left Liverpool in 2007 after three years of playing for the Merseyside giants.

OPINION

It is unbelievable that Liverpool will have to play in the Carabao Cup quarter-final one day and then the Club World Cup the next. Do the EFL not realise that a club can win the Champions League and then do well in domestic competitions the next season? Liverpool are going to find it tough to name balanced squads in both games so it would not be a shock to see Klopp name a squad of youngsters for the Aston Villa match. Liverpool’s young players have served them well so far in the Carabao Cup with the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, Sepp van den Berg and Rhian Brewster all playing a role in the last two rounds. In the penalty shoot-out win against Arsenal last week, after a 5-5 draw, there were some good strong performances. Liverpool’s priority will more than likely be the Club World Cup as it is a more winnable competition and is something they have never won before so expect the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to star in that semi-final in Qatar.
