OPINION
Saturday was probably one of Aston Villa’s darkest days since their return to the Premier League. They welcomed the rampant Reds to Villa Park, and a last-gasp Sadio Mane header sealed all three points for Liverpool despite a defensive effort to be proud of from the home side. Fear not, as Dean Smith’s side will face Liverpool once again in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in December, a game that will be played 24 hours before the Reds’ first Club World Cup clash. Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to field two teams in two different continents, and the German recently joked to The Athletic journalist, James Pearce, as quoted by Villa Report on their Twitter account, that the Midlands side should go to Qatar to fulfil the cup clash. Many Aston Villa fans didn’t see the funny side of that comment though and were instantly baffled by the suggestion, with the majority claiming that he Liverpool boss should pay for their travel if he thinks that is the answer. Villa fans need to take a step back and learn to take the joke, after all, that is what Klopp is known for.
