Ally McCoist has claimed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been liked a “new player” since returning from injury.

The 26-year-old Liverpool midfielder made it five goals in his last six games for club and country with the opener in England’s 7-0 win over Montenegro on Thursday, and McCoist was impressed by what he saw.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Tremendous. He’s like a new player.

“Clearly, he looks as though he wants to make up for lost time.

“I thought his goal was brilliant.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with McCoist on this one. The Ox has been in imperious form since he made his comeback from that horrendous ligament injury, and he looks hungrier and sharper than ever. He can’t stop scoring at the moment, and with every passing game he looks more and more like the asset that he has threatened to become his whole career. The 26-year-old looks more mature than every before, and if he can keep up this level of consistency then he will surely be a nailed on starter for club and country in the very near future. His Whoscored rating of 8.44 in the Champions League shows that he is ready to make a real impact on matches when he is given teh nod from the get-go. He showed it again on Thursday evening, and Liverpool fans must be buzzing off the back of another marvellous display.
