Kalidou Koulibaly would be a “dream” signing for Liverpool, according to James Pearce.

The 6’4″ ace put in a colossal performance for Napoli against the Reds at Anfield on Wednesday night, helping his side to a 1-1 draw.

And Pearce has admitted that he would be keen on seeing the 28-year-old on Merseyside on a weekly basis.

Writing in a Q&A for the Athletic, he said: “I’d love him at Liverpool.

“Imagine him and Van Dijk together.

“Would be the dream combination.”

OPINION

If Liverpool were to bring in Koulibaly, you might as well just sign over the Premier League and Champions League to them for the next few seasons. The Napoli defender is an absolute man mountain, and with the defensive talents of Virgil Van Dijk alongside him, it’s difficult to see the pair conceding many goals. Koulibaly has been immense so far this season, averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 3.8 clearances per game, as per Whoscored, plus a pass completion rate of nearly 87%. he is imposing and measured, and there is no doubt that he is one of the finest centre-backs in the world today. That being said, there is almost no chance of the Reds moving for him. He wouldn’t come cheap, and with Van Dijk already at the heart of defence, plus the fine form of Joel Matip prior to his injury, it would be hard to justify such an expensive move.
