Mo Salah is a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace after the international break, although he has yet to be officially ruled out of the match, according to James Pearce.

The winger has been struggling with an ankle injury for several weeks now, and was pictured in a protective boot by the Egyptian FA’s official Twitter account earlier this week.

And writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, Pearce has admitted that the signs don’t look overly promising.

He said: “My information is that Salah is a doubt for Crystal Palace away but he hasn’t been ruled out of that game yet.

“It all depends how he responds to the treatment. With the schedule LFC have got coming up, they won’t take any risks with him.

“It’s a worry as it’s a problem he’s been carrying for some time.”

OPINION

Losing Salah for any period of time is always going to be a blow for this Liverpool side. The wide man is hands down one of the most dangerous attacking talents in world football right now, and taking him out of the side will mean that Jurgen Klopp is forced to reevaluate his approach. You would expect the Reds to beat Palace without him anyways, but there are no givens in the Premier League, and both Klopp and supporters would surely feel better knowing that they had Salah to call upon if needed. So far this season he has hit nine goals and five assist in all competitions, as well as averaging 3.7 shots, 1.5 key passes, and two successful dribbles per game too, as per Whoscored. All in all, it’s easy to see how he has earned his match rating of 7.42, and without him in the side, the Reds are always going to look like a considerably weaker proposition.
