Robbie Williams mocked Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for his antics in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

The pop star, who found fame with boyband Take That, made fun of Guardiola thanking the officials after the loss to Liverpool and even suggested the manager was wrong to want a penalty given for handball against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“You think there was one referee walking off thinking, I don’t think he meant that?” pondered Williams on Amazon Prime’s Back Of The Net (Tuesday, November 12th).

“Wasn’t there a handball by a Man City player before the handball he’s…” (John Bishop interrupted to say “yeah yeah yeah”)

Williams then proceeded to mock Guardiola after Gabby Logan compared the manager’s reactions during the game, where he clearly shouted twice at the officials to imply two mistakes were made, to John Cleese’s famous character Basil Fawlty.

“The weird thing about Pep, you think he’s like some sophisticated thinker guy and then there was the documentary that was on this channel and he’s like ‘hey guys, hey guys’, it’s like being managed by Gino D’Acampo,” said the famous singer.

OPINION

Williams was a surprise guest on the latest episode of Back Of The Net on Tuesday and he didn’t disappoint. The singer didn’t shy away from joining in with Peter Crouch, Bishop and Logan to joke about the latest weekend of Premier League action and him openly mocking Guardiola seemed to go down a treat. It’s fair to say Guardiola’s over-the-top antics were easy to make fun of as his reactions to his side not being given decisions he believes they deserve, were comedy gold. It’s also nice to hear that Williams was mystified over why Guardiola was so angry as he doesn’t believe Alexander-Arnold’s handball warranted the club being given a penalty. While the Man City boss is no doubt convinced that if his side had been given a penalty at that moment, the game would have been different, as they went behind shortly after being denied a spot-kick,  if his side were good enough to beat Jurgen Klopp’s team, they would have found a way to get the win, regardless of them having things go against them.
