Alan Shearer was blown away by the inch-perfect cross that Jordan Henderson delivered to assist Sadio Mane’s goal in Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
Henderson, 29, earned his first assist of the season when his cross from the byline was stuck in the back of the net by Mane at the back post in the second half.
Newcastle legend Shearer could not speak highly enough of Liverpool’s midfield trio of Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho for their performances against Man City.
“When you look at midfielders, what do you want from the perfect midfielder performance? Creativity, protection in front of the back-four, goal, a range of passing – short and long – energy to get from box to box,” said Shearer on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night. “Fabinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum had all of that and more.”
On Henderson’s cross, Shearer said: “What about this for a cross? This is just incredible.
“Henderson. Forward’s dream to get on the end of it. Incredible.
“The three of them were immense and that’s where the game was won.”

It is crazy that some Liverpool fans do not rate Henderson at all. Even on Sunday, during one of his best performances of the season, there were a section of fans on Twitter who were blasting the midfielder for his display. There are some people who just love to moan, no matter how well things are going. Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League a third of the way through November. Who predicted that? If the Reds continue this form they will be Premier League champions for the first time ever and Henderson – the man who is being criticised regularly by fans – will be doing what Steven Gerrard never did and lifting the league trophy. Henderson is one of the most important players in this side and it is vital that he, Wijnaldum and Fabinho stat fit over the course of the campaign because when they play like they played on Sunday, they are unstoppable. Many say that Man City have the best midfield in the league but after witnessing that on Sunday, you have to say it’s Liverpool who do.
