British rapper and renowned Liverpool fan Slowthai has heaped praise on Reds attacker Sadio Mane, claiming he can become the world’s finest footballer.

The Senegal star has been in sensational form for the European champions to start the season, and has arguably been the top flight’s best player thus far.

Slowthai is a big fan: “They were always my team, man,” the musician told the club’s official website of his love of Jurgen Klopp’s side. “I always loved Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard – that’s who you wanted to be when you were a kid kicking the ball outside your house.

“I’d put Sadio Mane on the back of my shirt now. He’s my guy. He’s undeniable. I feel like he can be the best player in the world.”

OPINION

It’s difficult to put any limits on Mane’s progress at the moment. He has really turned it on since he joined Liverpool, and so you can’t deny Slowthai’s statement that he could well become the best player in the world at some point. We all know that there’s going to be a vacancy at the position once Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi retire, so why couldn’t Mane fill it? The obvious candidate is Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, of course, but you never know. Certainly, the Senegal international’s form so far this term would indicate that he can compete with almost any attacker in world football. As per WhoScored.com, the 27-year-old has scored nine times and grabbed two assists in 19 games, while he is averaging 2.2 shots, two key passes and 1.6 successful dribbles per game. His all-round game has improved bucketloads, and he is the man really propelling the Reds’ title charge at the moment. Credit to him for that, and it’s easy to see why Slowthai is such a fan.
