Former England international Chris Sutton has clashed with BBC presenter Alistair Bruce-Ball in a debate over whether ‘football fans’ want Liverpool to win the Premier League.
The two men were of differing opinions as they debated the issue, with Sutton feeling that the majority of neutrals do want the title to make its way to Anfield.
“I think most football fans want Liverpool to win the Premier League,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “What are you laughing at? I’m being serious.”
“There are plenty of football fans who DON’T want Liverpool to win the league,” Bruce-Ball responded, to which Sutton retorted: “That’s rubbish. I want Liverpool to win it because they haven’t won it for a long, long time.”
"I don't think it's done and dusted – #LFC have been found out a little bit and they've not got out of first gear this season."
They're 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table – but this fan still isn't convinced by what he's seen this season ?#BBC606 pic.twitter.com/tIZGV9V5AR

OPINION
This is an interesting question. Do the majority of neutral football fans want Liverpool to win the Premier League this season? There are certainly plenty of those who, as Bruce-Balls says, would rather the Reds didn’t seal their dream title win this campaign. However, those are likely supporters of teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton and maybe even Southampton due to all the players Jurgen Klopp’s side have pinched off them over the years. For neutrals, with no positive or negative feelings, though, perhaps they do want Liverpool to win it. We don’t want the same old team winning things every single year. The City era has been amazing due to the quality and consistency of their football under Pep Guardiola, but we don’t want it to go on forever. Serie A is losing some of its lustre because Juventus keep winning it every single season. Wondering who finishes second every year isn’t all that exciting. So in that respect, Sutton is probably spot on with what he says.
