Preston North End have entered the hunt to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher on loan this season, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that Jurgen Klopp is now weighing up his options and considering whether or not to sanction the temporary exit of the highly-rated 20-year-old.

The Daily Star report that the Irish youth international is seen as a future first-team star at Anfield, but that they could be tempted to let him leave and pick up regular senior action in the second half of the campaign in the Championship.

Kelleher starred in the recent Carabao Cup victory against Arsenal, saving a Dani Ceballos penalty to help his side progress to the quarter-finals.

OPINION

It would be a smart decision for Klopp to allow Kelleher the chance to move away for the second half of the season. The 20-year-old has had his two games of exposure in the Reds’ set-up and performed brilliantly, but with Alisson Becker, Adrian, and Andy Lonergan at the club, there may not be many more chances for him to play this season. The German has already allowed Kamil Grabara the chance to move to Huddersfield, and his exposure has seen him shine this season. Klopp should use the Polish stopper’s experience as a sign that it is smart to allow your younger players the chance to possibly drop down a level, but still, feature weekly in one of the most competitive divisions around. His starring performance against Arsenal proved he is more than capable of cementing his spot in goal in the future, but for him to stick around and play in the under-23s would be a real waste now he has tasted senior action, and Liverpool must give him that chance to move on temporarily.
