Liverpool academy duo Adam Lewis and Yasser Larouci are amongst a group of players that could replace Andrew Robertson against Crystal Palace, according to journalist Neil Macdonald.

The Liverpool Echo correspondent claimed that it would be a big surprise if they were given the nod, and named James Milner as the likely candidate to take the spot of the doubtful Scotsman.

Macdonald reported that Milner would be a risk for the game against Palace after he was sent off in the same fixture last season at Anfield after an afternoon of torment following Wilfried Zaha.

It is suggested that it would be a surprise should one of the academy players fill in at left-back, after Robertson revealed that he hasn’t trained for the past two weeks [Express].

OPINION

It would be a surprise should Jurgen Klopp give the chance for one of the academy duo the chance against Palace, but the German has been proved right to give opportunities to the youngsters in the Carabao Cup. Milner would be the obvious option but he clearly isn’t an out-and-out left-back, and that could make a potential problem for a defence that has only kept a single clean sheet in this campaign. The experienced Reds’ ace has also been tormented once before by Palace’s fast and skilful front line that has the ability to turn any game on its head. Larouci was impressive in pre-season, and featured in the majority of their games on the tour of America, and therefore has already highlighted his talents. He suffered an injury in the game against Sevilla which potentially halted his progress into the first-team, and this may be the chance he has needed ever since.
