OPINION
It was strange that, after scoring a wonder goal against Arsenal on Wednesday night, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp decided to leave central midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the substitute’s bench against Aston Villa on Saturday. He opted to rest key man Fabinho for the Manchester City clash next weekend, but it was Adam Lallana who came into the midfield three alongside Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum. Oxlade-Chamberlain did get on mid-way through the second half, and you saw an instant impact from the England international in the Reds’ 2-1 win over the Villains. He got about three shots on goal away within a few minutes of entering the fray, producing the positivity and the direct running from midfield that the Reds had missed earlier on in the game. His instant impact makes you wonder why he didn’t play from the start, but hindsight is 20/20 of course. Still, Klopp may be regretting his team selection slightly after this one.
