What an extraordinary first half performance from Liverpool centre back Virgil van Dijk against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The Dutch international scored twice to send the Reds into the break with a commanding lead over the Seagulls. The 28-year-old is widely regarded as the finest defender in world football, but he showed that he is still adding strings to his bow at Anfield, as he put Brighton to the sword with his head. Two set-pieces, two crosses into the box from Trent Alexander-Arnold and two goals from Van Dijk. That was the recipe for the Reds in the first half, as Graham Potter’s side were beaten all ends up. The supporters describing the former Southampton man as unstoppable and sensational are spot on. This is a guy who is still growing, still improving, which is a scary thought for any team coming up against Jurgen Klopp’s side for the next few years.
