COMMENTARY
Liverpool went into the half-time break with the scoreline 0-0 against Crystal Palace on Saturday, and some Reds supporters weren’t in a fantastic mood. While the Reds had enough quality on the pitch to establish a lead against Palace, with 45 minutes left to play, Liverpool still have time to turn the game in their favour and get a win. However, a section of Liverpool fans seemed incensed and proceded to take out their frustration on Reds captain Jordan Henderson. One Liverpool supporter dubbed the midfielder woeful, while another fan claimed he was submitting another shambolic “disasterclass.” You have to feel that the criticism of Henderson was harsh as he didn’t exactly do anything wrong. The 29-year-old midfielder has reguarly been called upon by Jurgen Klopp this season and he has proven to be a solid defensive presence in midfield as he has averaged 1.8 tackles per game across his league outings (Source: WhoScored). You do feel Henderson gets critiqued due to being defensive-minded as Liverpool fans would rather see him surging forward and posing more of an attacking threat, but at the end of the day, that isn’t his role.
