Rodrygo is a name that not many Liverpool fans may have heard before.

The Brazilian sensation followed in the footsteps of Neymar when he joined Real Madrid in the summer, securing a move to La Liga just like the Paris Saint-Germain superstar did at the beginning of his career.

The youngster’s former coach, Elano, has recently revealed that the Reds were in the hunt for the winger, but missed out due to their initial proposal being way too low.

“There was a period when there was very strong trading from Liverpool for him to leave when he was still at base,” he told ESPN.

“The values ??were very low, but they wanted to go. Real’s offer afterwards was around 30 million euros. (£25.9million).”

Tuesday night gave Rodrygo the perfect platform to showcase his talents in the Champions League, he definitely didn’t waste any time, scoring his first two goals in the competition in the opening seven minutes.

The 18-year-old didn’t waste his chance to take home the match ball either, combining with his attacking teammates to finish off a sweeping move in the final 10 minutes to secure a hattrick.

It is nights on the biggest stage that can set a player apart from the rest, and Rodrygo proved that he can perform at the highest level, and Liverpool will surely be kicking themselves for missing out.

Jurgen Klopp targeted youth players in the summer, and the Madrid teen will have been a sensational signing to rotate with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane throughout the season.

Rodrygo has scored twice in his opening four La Liga appearances and has averaged 1.5 shots per game as well as a single key pass according to WhoScored – stats that prove that he hasn’t started too slowly and has thrown himself straight into the action despite the magnitude of the move.

Liverpool will surely be kicking themselves after missing out, with Rodrygo surely proving that he would have been a bargain for the European champions.
