Ally McCoist was baffled over the suggestion that Manchester City were more likely to win the Champions League than Liverpool this season.

The retired Scotland international was told the bettings odds on Man City winning the Champions League and couldn’t work out why it was being suggested they’re more likely to win the prestigious trophy than the Reds when you consider the form of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

McCoist was told that no club has retained the Champions League trophy, Liverpool won it last year, hence why people were betting against the Reds and the pundit quickly pointed out Real Madrid defended their title in 2017.

“So you said Man City are 11/4? And what are Liverpool (told 11/2), okay someone needs to sit me down and explain this to me,” said McCoist on talkSPORT (8:23am, Wednesday, November 27th).

“So Liverpool the form team in Europe arguably, alongside Bayern Munich, are 11/2 and Man City who aren’t firing on all cylinders are 11/4.

“I think you’re wrong (told Champions League is difficult to retain), I think Real Madrid have done it.”

McCoist is surely spot-on to be baffled over Man City being considered more likely than Liverpool to win the Champions League, as it’s odd to see why they have more of chance.

The Reds have been in way better form than Pep Guardiola’s side domestically, hence why they’re nine points clear of them in the league, and Klopp’s team even recently comfortably beat Man City 3-1.

Also, Liverpool’s current side have proven they’re capable of winning the Champions League, see last season, and Man City haven’t.

Guardiola’s team crashed out of the Champions League courtesy of Tottenham, due to away goals, at the quarter-final stage last season.

Man City have done okay in the tournament this season as they did qualify for the round of 16 with a game to spare by drawing with Shaktar Donestk on Tuesday, but Liverpool could qualify by beating Napoli tonight, with a game to spare, so how can you rank their chances above the Reds?

So with that all in mind, McCoist is spot-on on this occasion, and hopefully, time will make him look justified to be confused.
