Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has admitted that he has been blown away by Sadio Mane since he arrived at the club.

The Scottish international was speaking after the Senegalese international scored the winner against Aston Villa on Saturday after his goal started the come back in the 2-1 win.

Robertson heaped praise on Mane for the impact he has in the final third for Liverpool and was impressed by his header under pressure in added time.

“Sadio has been magnificent since I’ve come in, but 2019 I think has been Sadio’s year,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s really turned it up; he obviously shared the Golden Boot last year and he’s off to a flier this year.”

Liverpool maintained their gap at the top of the Premier League before their clash with title rivals Manchester City at Anfield next time out.

OPINION

There is no doubting the growing importance of Mane to this Liverpool side. The Senegalese talisman seems to just carry on getting stronger in his general performances as well as his returns in front of goal over the past couple of seasons. His winner against Aston Villa on Saturday was different from his usual type of goal, and he displayed great bravery to stick his head where it hurts and flick the ball into the far corner and spark pandemonium in the away end. The 27-year-old has already been involved in eight goals in 11 games so far this season, and is the Reds’ top-scorer, highlighting his growing importance compared to the likes of Mohamed Salah, who is the Liverpool forward who usually grabs the headlines. Mane has gone into a world of his own in the past year and is fully deserving of all the plaudits he continues to receive.
