Liverpool are preparing to sanction a loan exit for young midfielder Curtis Jones in January, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims that the Reds are looking to offload both Jones and his fellow teenager Rhian Brewster on temporary deals next month.

Jones made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth last weekend, while he was also on the substitute’s bench against Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.

OPINION

This is the ideal next move for Jones. He has long been regarded as a top young prospect within the Liverpool academy, but first team opportunities have been limited this term for obvious reasons. He’s come into prominence a little bit in recent weeks, while he’s expected to start against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup next week, as well. That should put him in the shop window as far as a loan goes, and he will no doubt attract plenty of interest. A spell in the Championship, or even the top end of League One – at a Wycombe Wanderers or Ipswich Town – could be good depending on how far along Jurgen Klopp thinks he is. But Jones needs to play first team football in order to continue progressing, that’s for sure. He’s not going to get that at Liverpool right now, which is no knock on him, and so a loan is the obvious answer. A Championship spell and then another with a Premier League team next season – a la Harry Wilson – could be just the ticket for him.
