Charlie Nicholas has backed Liverpool to win their midweek derby clash against Everton comfortably.

The Reds host their bitter rivals on Wednesday night knowing that a win would reopen an 11 point gap over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, and Nicholas has no doubts that they will do just that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Liverpool do not have the same rhythm but they know how to get results and get there in the end.

“This is a different scenario – it’s the derby.

“They will not be thinking about anything to come and will want to rub Everton’s noses in it. Marco Silva’s side will park the bus, but Liverpool will be comfortable.”

Nicholas predicts a 2-0 Liverpool win.

OPINION

It’s hard to see anything but a Liverpool win here. Over the past few years, it’s hard to remember a time at which the gap between the two Mersey rivals has been wider or more profound. The Reds are indomitable, while the Blues have lost eight times already this season, and are just a whisker away from a relegation battle. In fairness, they came ridiculously close to taking a point from Leicester City over the weekend, but even then they had just 31% possession, as per the BBC, and even after improving vastly on the 2-0 defeat to Norwich City the week before, they still came up short. Liverpool, on the other hand, are firmly in their stride right now. They may not be steamrolling sides on the regular, but they are winning games regardless, and that is a surefire sign of potential champions. Ordinarily, the form book goes out of the window a little in a derby, but in this instance, it feels like a fairly nailed on outcome already.
