Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will field his strongest possible starting XI against Leicester City on Boxing Day, according to James Pearce.

The German has rotated his squad frequently in recent matches, with a busy festive fixture schedule to come for the Reds, but Pearce is under no doubts as to his plans for the key clash against the Foxes later this month.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “Klopp keeps on picking teams based on the opposition LFC are facing and the physical condition of his players.

“You can guarantee he will field his strongest possible XI at the King Power on Boxing Day.”

That game against Leicester City could end up defining Liverpool’s season. If the Reds can win against the Foxes then, provided they don’t drop points elsewhere between now and then, they will go into the new year 11 points clear at the top of the table. That lead would surely be just about as close to insurmountable as you could ever hope for, and at that stage it truly would be their title to lose. The alternative is a Leicester win, which could cut the gap at the top to just five points. Suddenly things would look a lot less secure, and fans might start to worry about history repeating itself as another storming start to the season dissipates. Ultimately, the Foxes could well be the most viable challengers to the Reds in this title race, despite the fact that most people have not paid them the same level of attention as Manchester City so far. If the Reds can beat them on Boxing Day though, even they may look too far gone to be a serious threat.
