Xherdan Shaqiri is going to be “very important” for Liverpool over the reminder of the season, according to James Pearce.

The £80,000-a-week ace [Spotrac] returned to the Reds’ lineup for his first Premier League start of the season against Everton on Wednesday night, and capped off his display with a fine goal.

When asked whether there was any chance of the Swiss international being sold in January during a Q&A for The Athletic after the match, Pearce wrote: “No chance he leaves in January.

“He’s going to be very important.”

OPINION

On the basis of his display on Wednesday night, Shaqiri has the potential to become a fantastic asset for the Reds in the second half of the season. Is he likely to play every week? No, probably not. But does he have the ability to be a great rotation option for Klopp when it comes to freshening things up as the fixtures begin to pile up in the coming weeks? Absolutely. Shaq was superb last night, bagging his goal, as well as registering one key pass, two successful dribbles, and a Whoscored rating of 7.63. Perhaps most impressive, however, was his work rate. Shaqiri has often been accused of not really putting in a shift on the back foot, but he ran hard last night, and hopefully he has shown Jurgen Klopp that he has the work ethic and desire to really by into the mentality of this Liverpool side.
