Neil Warnock has heaped praise on Liverpool ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following his goalscoring turn for the Reds against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The 26-year-old struck the opener in a 3-0 win on the south coast yesterday, and Warnock was quick to hail his contribution for the league leaders.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday (December 8th, 12.15pm, Sky Sports Premier League), he said: “He’s such a good lad.

“I call him a bread and butter player. I know he’s better than that, but as a manager he’s one you’d always want on your list, for me.

“He’s a manager’s dream. Every week he’s going to give you 8/10 at least.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with Warnock on this one. The Ox has been like a new player for the Reds since returning from injury, and he was as impressive as ever against Bournemouth at on Saturday. With a match rating of 7.43, as per Whoscored, he was a constant thorn in the Cherries’ side, and he was justly rewarded for his efforts with a brilliantly taken goal. The reality is that he is unlikely to start every week, of course, especially in a more advanced position like he did on Saturday, but his presence could still be a difference maker for the Reds this season. We’ve seen it already this term, with Jurgen Klopp much more willing to rotate his squad than he was last term, and the added depth that players like the Ox adds to this team could be the advantage needed to see the Reds over the line.
