OPINION
Another Premier League win for Liverpool, another fine example of just how Trent Alexander-Arnold is. It can be easy to take the full-back for granted because he is so consistently impressive, but the Reds’ 5-2 win over Everton on Wednesday was a perfect reminder of just superb he can be. His distribution in particular was something quite special, and he was instrumental in Xherdan Shaqiri’s strike that doubled the Reds’ early lead in the first half at Anfield. The manner in which he strokes casual 40-yard diagonals around is frankly outrageous at times, and he possesses a quality on the ball that is far more accustomed to a deep-lying midfield role than a berth at full-back. And that’s been the case all season long. The youngster has averaged 3.4 key passes per game so far this term, as per Whoscored, and his eye for a pass is as sharp as anybody’s in the division. True, there are times when he could maybe be a little sharper in his defensive third, but when he’s pinging balls about as well as he was on Wednesday, you can forgive him the odd slip up here and there. What a special player he is turning into.
