OPINION

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah certainly didn’t enjoy his finest game in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday. In the midst of a hugely open game, the Egyptian was guilty of missing a couple of gild-edged chances. He also took a free-kick instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold in a dangerous position, only to smash it way over the bar. However, he produced some positive moments, as well, including finding Naby Keita in a terrific position late in the first half with a fantastic pass. Those two appear to have a wonderful connection, but it wasn’t quite followed through on in Austria. Salah can be maddening at times, but the criticism he has gotten here from certain Liverpool fans is surely a bit over the top. Yes, he missed a couple of chances, but that doesn’t mean he’s suddenly not one of the Reds’ best players or needs to be substituted. He certainly wasn’t the only one ‘costing’ Liverpool the game, as one fan attested. Indeed, he ended up scoring the second goal with a sublime effort.
