Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to comments made by former Reds midfielder Emre Can about his loan move to Borussia Dortmund in January following an interview he gave to German publication Kicker.
As noted by @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter, the 26-year-old told Kicker that he had offers from three Premier League clubs in the winter transfer window, one of which was Manchester United. However, he instantly nixed the possibility of going to Old Trafford on loan from Juventus, saying: “I didn’t think about that for a second because of my Liverpool past.”
?? Emre Can: "I've received 3 offers from EPL clubs before I joined BVB. Man United was one of them but I haven't thought about that for a second because of my LFC past
I wanted to go to a club for which I can be important, where I am needed. I felt an extreme sympathy for BVB"

Can came to Liverpool in 2014 and made 167 appearances for the Reds before leaving for Serie A on a free transfer after four years on Merseyside after running down his contract (as per Sky Sports). The Liverpool Echo had reported in 2018 that he turned down a new contract offer at Anfield as he wanted to emulate boyhood idol Zinedine Zidane by playing for Juventus and the midfielder has been criticised by some Reds fans in the past over the manner of his departure from Liverpool.
However, The Athletic writer James Pearce claimed last month [@JamesPearceLFC, via Daily Star] that the Anfield club refused to grant the player’s wish of adding a release clause to a proposed contract extension, thus leading to his exit from the club.
Can’s comments on choosing Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United prompted mixed reaction from these Liverpool fans on Twitter, with some appreciating his stance and others unmoved – one Kopite mocked him as “Coutinho without talent”, a reference to the Brazilian who reportedly contributed some of his own money towards securing a move to Barcelona two years ago, according to Mundo Deportivo (via Calciomercato):
love you to emre

Never understood the hate towards him, some lfc fans tryna put him on the same bandwagon as Coutinho

Always had respect for the way Can conducted himself when leaving. Thought he was making the wrong decision and didn’t like him for it but this shows he still has respect for us unlike 2 certain rats

Why is everyone suddenly loving him pretends he loves us. He thought he was bigger than us went to Juve proved he wasn’t and look how well we’ve done since

Can’t trust him with those words, basically no one want to join Man Utd for fear of failure
