A number of Liverpool fans have voiced their agreement with a tweet from The Athletic reporter James Pearce (@JamesPearceLFC) insisting that finishing the current football season should take precedence over ensuring that the 2020/21 campaign has its traditional August start.

The Premier League, along with UEFA club competitions, is currently on hold due to the global coronavirus crisis, with representatives from the top 20 clubs in England set to meet on Thursday to discuss how the remainder of the 2019/20 league season should be handled.

The likes of Karren Brady and Piers Morgan have called for the season to be voided if games cannot be played for the foreseeable future and a full league calendar can’t be completed. Other possibilities include current leaders Liverpool being declared champions if the season can’t be finished, or alternatively resuming the season at a later point and playing it into the summer months (as per Sky Sports). The postponement of Euro 2020 to next year should free up space in June and July for club fixtures if needed, which may entail a later-than-usual start to the 2020/21 club season.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter firmly agreed with Pearce’s emphatic view on the matter:

Liverpool fans, do you agree with Pearce’s view that the current season must be completed before the next one can start? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below!
