Plenty of Liverpool fans have welcomed UEFA’s decision to postpone Euro 2020 until next summer due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting Europe.

As per Sky Sports, European football’s governing body today confirmed that its flagship international tournament, which was due to take place in June and July of this year, will instead be deferred to the summer of 2021, with the news broken by the Norwegian FA on Twitter.

While no decision has yet been taken on the remainder of the club season, Premier League clubs are due to meet this Thursday to discuss the best option for the outstanding fixtures from the 2019/20 campaign. The removal of Euro 2020 from this year’s calendar could free up space in the summer for the English domestic season to be completed should the effects of COVID-19 subside in the coming weeks.

That scenario should spell good news for Liverpool, who currently have a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League and need only two more wins to clinch their first league title since 1990. These Reds fans on Twitter were happy to hear that the European Championship has been put back to next year:
