Plenty of Liverpool fans turned on Adam Lallana following comments he made to liverpoolfc.com (subsequently shared on Twitter via @LFC) after last night’s FA Cup exit.
The 31-year-old said that he and his team-mates were “bitterly disappointed” with their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea and has called for “a big reaction” in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth. When asked for reasons behind a downturn in form that has resulted in three defeats out of the last four, the midfielder replied: “Nothing has been going wrong, you can always lose games”. Lallana was statistically one of Liverpool’s better players last night, his 87% passing success rate second only to Curtis Jones, while he completed all three dribbles that he attempted as well as winning eight of his 12 duels (as per SofaScore). However, his performance didn’t meet with much acclaim from some reporters.
In the Liverpool Echo, Ian Doyle noted a “mixed bag” from the midfielder who had “some silky touches and passes followed by needless tackles and mindless runs”. This Is Anfield‘s Henry Jackson felt that the 31-year-old “allowed Chelsea‘s midfield to boss proceedings” and “didn’t stamp his authority on the game”.
These Reds fans on Twitter gave short shrift to Lallana’s comments on the defeat at Stamford Bridge:
We all are, Adam. You need to try and do more when given opportunities to play. Not good enough. ?
