Liverpool-focused Twitter channel @AnfieldWatch posted a list of four players who they claimed to be linked with potential summer moves to the club “from reliable sources”, with one man in particular drawing a mixed reaction from some Reds fans.

West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell was included in the list of names cited by @AnfieldWatch and his name was mentioned by James Pearce in a Q&A with The Athletic following Liverpool’s recent win over the Hammers, with the journalist saying: “There aren’t many people I’d have. Maybe Cresswell as back up to Robertson” in response to a question about whether the Reds should sign any players from the London club if they are relegated from the Premier League.

The 30-year-old left-back played with Liverpool’s academy teams as a teenager but was released by the club at 15, a move which “devastated” him, as per an interview with The Telegraph. He has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for West Ham and win three England caps.

These Reds fans on Twitter were divided on the prospect of having Cresswell at Anfield. Some feel that he would provide a much-needed left-back alternative to Andrew Robertson, while others are unconvinced by the Hammers defender, with one supporter stating that he is “not a very FSG signing“:
