A number of Liverpool fans have expressed their satisfaction with reports that they are no longer pursuing Todd Cantwell as a transfer target.

According to The Athletic’s Red Agenda podcast [via Daily Express], the Reds look set to end their reported pursuit of the Norwich midfielder after being told that they would need to stump up at least £30m to bring him to Anfield, with the news shared on Twitter by @AnfieldEdition.

The Daily Express claimed that Liverpool had been closely monitoring the 22-year-old throughout the season after an impressive Premier League campaign in which he has scored six times in 28 appearances in the division in his first year at top-flight level. Despite those figures, ex-Reds player Steve McManaman recently told HorseRacing.net [via Daily Express] that he was “surprised” to hear of the Anfield club’s apparent interest in Cantwell, who he feels hasn’t yet done enough to merit a move to the Premier League leaders.

Liverpool’s attacking midfield options could be trimmed in the summer with both Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri expected to leave the club (according to the Daily Express), which may have been another factor in their apparent pursuit of the Norwich man. However, these Reds fans on Twitter were glad to hear that Cantwell is no longer in the Merseysiders’ sights, with one supporter bluntly dismissing him as “Adam Lallana 2.0”, a possible ode to the 31-year-old’s injury record and lack of scoring output (just one goal since summer 2017):
