A number of Liverpool fans have expressed their fears at the thought of Wednesday night’s Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid being played at an empty Anfield.

Paris Saint-Germain host Borussia Dortmund in the night’s other match in that competition and, as noted by The Guardian, the game at the Parc des Princes will be played behind closed doors due to the threat of coronavirus in France – prompting @AnfieldEdition on Twitter to raise the prospect of the same happening on Merseyside.

Liverpool trail the La Liga side 1-0 from the first leg in a situation not wholly unlike last season’s semi-finals when they were beaten 3-0 away to Barcelona before the return leg on home soil. At a raucous Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s team won an incredible second leg 4-0 to advance to the final and ultimately claim the trophy.

Even aside from that epic, Anfield has seen a multitude of boisterous European nights, including games against Saint-Etienne in 1977, Roma in 2002, Chelsea in 2005 and Borussia Dortmund in 2016, nights when famous wins were delivered.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter are fearful of a potential behind-closed-doors order being placed on Anfield for Wednesday’s clash against Atletico:
