Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to comments made by the club’s former defender Glen Johnson saying that the Premier League season may have to be cancelled and, if the Reds were to be declared champions of an incomplete season, it would feel hollow.

On his blog for BETDAQ [via Football 365], the ex-England international said: “If the season is cancelled and the title is awarded to Liverpool, every person on the planet, except Liverpool fans, is going to say they didn’t win the league.

“It’s incredibly harsh on them as they’ve been streets ahead of their rivals this season, but the way things are going it might all be for nothing. In my opinion, if things don’t change pretty swiftly, we’ll have to cancel the season,” adding: “Klopp’s side are in a no-win situation there is no way the players will want it in that manner.” His words were later shared on Twitter by @AnfieldEdition.

Despite Johnson’s fears about the remainder of the 2019/20 Premier League being cancelled, the league yesterday released a joint statement with the FA and EFL agreeing to postpone the resumption of football until 30 April at the earliest. However, each of those bodies remains committed to having the season completed, with the FA relaxing its ruling that the club campaign must be finished by 1 June. [via premierleague.com]

Liverpool are on course to win their first league title in 30 years as they currently have a 25-point lead at the summit and need only two wins from their remaining nine fixtures to clinch the crown. These Reds fans on Twitter weren’t overly impressed by Johnson’s remarks:
