Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to an article written by James Pearce for The Athletic in which he staunchly defended Mohamed Salah, with many Reds supporters agreeing with his point of view.

In a piece which he shared on Twitter via @JamesPearceLFC, the journalist said that the 27-year-old forward is “integral to Liverpool’s future”, adding that it would be “disrespectful to imply otherwise”. Pearce added on Twitter that there was a “school of thought” calling for the club to sell Salah in the summer, a notion that he dismissed as “nonsense”.

The Egyptian has been a consistently reliable scorer for Liverpool since joining in 2017, with 91 goals in 144 appearances for the Reds, including 20 this season that have made him the team’s leading marksman. However, he has at times been criticised for apparent selfishness and accused by some Kopites of below-par performances in games against WolvesNorwich and Atletico Madrid . ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno recently said [via Tribuna] that Liverpool could “do better than Salah”, while Robbie Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live that they should consider dropping or selling him if they manage to sign reported target Jadon Sancho.

These Reds fans on Twitter joined Pearce in sticking up for Salah, who one Liverpool supporter described as an “LFC icon” given his fantastic scoring record for the club:

Liverpool fans, do you agree with Pearce’s views on Salah? Just how vital is the Egyptian to this Reds team? Have your say by commenting below!
