Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to an article written by James Pearce for The Athletic in which he staunchly defended Mohamed Salah, with many Reds supporters agreeing with his point of view.
In a piece which he shared on Twitter via @JamesPearceLFC, the journalist said that the 27-year-old forward is “integral to Liverpool’s future”, adding that it would be “disrespectful to imply otherwise”. Pearce added on Twitter that there was a “school of thought” calling for the club to sell Salah in the summer, a notion that he dismissed as “nonsense”.
A piece on the brilliance of Mohamed Salah and his evolving role at Liverpool. There’s a school of thought that Klopp should cash in on the Egyptian this summer. It’s nonsense. #LFC https://t.co/oIV2fbBe7U

The Egyptian has been a consistently reliable scorer for Liverpool since joining in 2017, with 91 goals in 144 appearances for the Reds, including 20 this season that have made him the team’s leading marksman. However, he has at times been criticised for apparent selfishness and accused by some Kopites of below-par performances in games against Wolves, Norwich and Atletico Madrid . ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno recently said [via Tribuna] that Liverpool could “do better than Salah”, while Robbie Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live that they should consider dropping or selling him if they manage to sign reported target Jadon Sancho.
These Reds fans on Twitter joined Pearce in sticking up for Salah, who one Liverpool supporter described as an “LFC icon” given his fantastic scoring record for the club:
In 10 years time people will look at his numbers and his highlights and think that it’s absolutely crazy that people wanted to cash in. We’re watching him become an LFC icon before our very eyes.

Proof is in the stats. Anyone don’t rate him or would sell or swap haven’t a clue.

You have to watch him play to appreciate just how effective he is as a striker. He’s strong and tough, he’s relentless and chases everything and everybody. The opposition get no rest, they are fixated on him, they are distracted by him. He worries them. And then he scores.
