Liverpool need just three more wins to guarantee being crowned Premier League champions and, due to the scheduling of fixtures in the division, they may not even require one – a realisation that sparked glee among many Reds fans on social media.

Following today’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth, Jurgen Klopp’s side lead Manchester City by 25 points and while the reigning champions have two games in hand, they can only claim a maximum of 33 points from now to the season’s end. In a bizarre quirk of the fixtures calendar, Pep Guardiola’s side will play three Premier League matches before Liverpool’s next game in the competition against Everton on 16 March. The title holders go to Manchester United tomorrow before hosting Arsenal on Wednesday and Burnley next Saturday.

If they were to lose all three of those matches, then Liverpool would have an insurmountable lead before they travel to Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby in nine days’ time, which would also mean the Reds beating the current record for the earliest Premier League title confirmation by a full month. While even one point in the next three games for Manchester City would mathematically take the title race to at least the weekend of 21/22 March, these Reds fans on Twitter revelled in the admittedly “unlikely” prospect of wrapping up the title before their next Premier League match:
