Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been lauded by a number of the club’s supporters for his reportedly prominent role in the Reds’ first team squad, in tandem with the LFC Foundation, donating £40,000 to Fans Supporting Foodbanks (as per liverpoolfc.com).

The Athletic reporter James Pearce claimed on Twitter (via @JamesPearceLFC) that the midfielder was the “driving force” behind the players’ involvement in the donation to help the charity during the coronavirus-related suspension of Premier League football.

As noted by liverpoolfc.com, the cancellation of matches until April at the earliest poses a significant threat to the North Liverpool Foodbank, which depends on matchday collections for roughly 25% of its donations. The contribution from Jurgen Klopp’s squad and LFC Foundation takes the form of £10,000 per game for the four remaining fixtures due to be held at Anfield so that the foodbank can continue to operate.

Henderson, who as Liverpool captain has scored three goals this season and skippered the team to three trophies in the last 12 months, was hailed by these Reds fans on Twitter for his “selfless” initiative in the squad’s foodbank donation:
