A number of Liverpool fans have said that they would like to have Raul Jimenez at the club if their reported pursuit of Timo Werner is unsuccessful.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig striker of late, with The Athletic reporting [via TEAMtalk] that they were due to begin talks with the 24-year-old over a potential move to Anfield. However, with Werner subsequently expressing uncertainly over that possible transfer (as per Sky Sports), Liverpool-focused Twitter channel @LFCTransferRoom asked followers who they would like as an alternative target if a proposed move for the Germany international breaks down.

Many made the case for Wolves forward Jimenez, who has scored 22 goals this season after 17 last term, with 13 Premier League goals in both campaigns. One of those came against Liverpool in a narrow 1-2 defeat at Molineux in January, breaking an eight-game sequence of successive league clean sheets for the Reds.

One Kopite on Twitter feels that the Mexican’s style is similar to that of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and the comparison is understandable. All 13 of Jimenez’s league goals this season have come from inside the penalty area, with three from inside the six-yard box. Firmino has the same six-yard box tally, with seven of his eight league goals this term scored from 18 yards or closer.

In response to the question from @LFCTransferRoom, these Liverpool fans on Twitter think that the Wolves man could be worth pursuing if the Reds’ attempts to lure Werner prove unsuccessful:
