Liverpool are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom this summer, according to a new transfer rumour.

In terms of incomings, things have gone a little quiet of late at Anfield, having brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai earlier in the window.

Romeo Lavia continues to be a primary transfer target but a move isn’t yet completed, with the headlines more focused on the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

New signings are still required as Liverpool’s Premier League opener away to Chelsea on August 13th edges closer all the time, and a new update has now emerged.

According to Ekstra Bladet [via Sport Witness], the Reds have “already been in contact” with Lindstrom over a summer move to Merseyside, although the same level of interest also applies to Arsenal.

They are not the only clubs eyeing a move for Lindstrom, however, and the report notes that Newcastle United, Tottenham, RB Leipzig, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli are all in the mix, too.

It is also stated that “there are plans for a summer sale” at Frankfurt, giving Liverpool hope over a deal coming to fruition, even though the 23-year-old’s current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026.

Our thoughts on Liverpool’s interest in Lindstrom…

While Lindstrom is undoubtedly a good player, picking up nine goal contributions (seven goals and two assists) in the Bundesliga last season, he is not the type of midfielder that the Reds need to sign this summer.

An attacking midfielder who is happiest linking with the attack, the Denmark international is too similar to Mac Allister and Szoboszlai in style, rather than being the No.6 that Jurgen Klopp needs more.

The focus has to be on Liverpool completing a move for Southampton youngster Lavia, who is adept in front the defence, and also bringing in a slightly more experienced player in that role, too, in order to ease the burden on him from the off.

It would, therefore, be a surprise if Lindstrom ended up coming in unless Klopp has a tactical plan up his sleeve that he is keeping under wraps, such as using one of his current squad in a deeper position, with Curtis Jones used there against Leicester City during pre-season.
