Reported Liverpool transfer target Jarrod Bowen is in talks with West Ham over a new deal at the club, according to a fresh update regarding his future.

The Reds are still stinging after their heartbreaking late defeat away to Tottenham on Saturday evening, as the north Londoners ran out 2-1 winners in a controversial Premier League clash.

Joel Matip’s stoppage-time own goal ended up being the difference between the two sides, as a nine-man Liverpool team just failed to hang on for what would have been a famous draw.

Away from the on-field action, Jurgen Klopp could still be eyeing up potential signings ahead of the January transfer window, with Bowen one player who has been linked with a move to Anfield in the recent past.

According to Football Insider, however, West Ham are now in talks to nail down the 26-year-old to a new contract, in order to fend off interest from Liverpool.

The report claims that “talks are now underway” regarding an extension for Bowen, adding that he has become the “main man” at the club since Declan Rice left to join Arsenal during the summer.

Our thoughts on Bowen’s possible new deal…

This seemingly acts as a significant blow for Liverpool, should their interest in the England international be genuine, with a new contract likely to tie him down for years to come.

Not only that, but if another club does want to sign him, it would take a huge fee to prise him away, due to the Hammers being in such a strong bargaining position.

While not necessarily a world-class footballer, Bowen has proven himself to be a top-level Premier League player at this point, producing consistent end product and scoring in his side’s 3-1 defeat away to Liverpool last month.

That was one of five goals that the forward has scored in just seven Premier League appearances so far this season, showing what an influential figure he has become in east London.

It is easy to envisage Bowen thriving under Klopp, given his work ethic and quality in the final third, but this update suggests that Liverpool may need to look elsewhere for future attacking reinforcements.
