According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is committed to the club and planning to stay next season, despite being in the last twelve months of his contract.

It has been a real rollercoaster season for Liverpool, with just three fixtures remaining before everything changes for the Anfield faithful as Jurgen Klopp ends his almost nine-year tenure on Merseyside.

The unexpected departure of the German coach has rocked the football world and now the Liverpool hierarchy is rigorously planning for a future without him to ensure that his hard work at the club is not undone.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is all but confirmed as Klopp’s successor for next season, at the very least, and it will be curious to observe just how well the Dutch manager can adapt and challenge in the Premier League.

While Klopp’s pending exit is a dead certainty, the future of many star players hangs in the balance, and after that confrontation between the Liverpool boss and Mohamed Salah at the weekend, there has been much talk about whether the Egyptian winger will continue beyond the current campaign.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT that incoming Slot would welcome Salah to stay on beyond Klopp’s tenure, however, with just 12 months left on his contract and Saudi pro clubs sniffing around, it seemed almost impossible to imagine that the attacker would stay.

Now, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has stepped in with an exclusive to put the minds of Liverpool fans at rest concerning the Egyptian’s commitment to the club.

Taking social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ornstein exclusively revealed:

“EXCL: Liverpool expect Mo Salah to stay & are planning with him for at least another campaign. 31yo has given no indication of wanting out + contract to be addressed in due course. Saudi view is Salah intends to remain at #LFC next season @TheAthleticFC”

Should Liverpool give Mo Salah a new contract?

There is no doubt that Salah has been an outstanding contributor since his arrival on the red side of Merseyside seven years ago and has become a household name for every football fan.

Arguably Liverpool’s biggest asset, the Egypt skipper has delivered beyond any expectation with 210 goals scored and 88 assists tallied up so far over 346, with a goal contribution registered every 93 minutes, which is an incredibly impressive consistency.

The 31-year-old’s contract will run out in the summer of 2025, however, Ornstein’s social media post seems to suggest that contract talks could be on the cards, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool will agree to pay his current wages of £350k per week for his services at the age of 33.

With that being said, it is unlikely that we have heard the last of Salah’s situation regarding his potentially final year at Liverpool, but it would make no financial sense for the club to let go of him for free next summer, so stay tuned.
