According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are prioritising the signing of a centre-back this summer.

Liverpool are about to embark on a new era without Jurgen Klopp this summer, and it is looking like the club is set to appoint Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as the German legend’s successor ahead of next season.

The Dutchman led the Rotterdam-based giants to their 16th Eredivisie title last season, but will face his biggest challenge yet in the Premier League as he embarks on a mission to steady the ship on Merseyside following Klopp’s departure.

The summer will be incredibly transformative for the Reds, and it would come as no surprise to see more long-stay players departing with both Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara out of contract in June.

Not only do we expect departures, but it would be naïve to think that Slot won’t want to put his personal touch on the current team by adding some fresh faces to the next chapter at Anfield.

Transfer expert and journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking to GIVEMESPORT and has given an insight on which positions the new manager and the new recruitment team will be looking to acquire:

“Liverpool have already started looking at centre-backs for the summer transfer window as one of the priority positions to cover. Internal talks are taking place about options and list to be discussed with Arne Slot in the next weeks.”

Who could Liverpool sign this summer?

With Matip out of contract and Virgil van Dijk reaching the latter stages of his career, there is certainly an opportunity to consider the future of the defensive set up.

Jarrell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez have all played their part in combining their talents with the club captain over the course of the season, while Matip has been sidelined with an ACL injury, but it looks like Liverpool are keen to add even more defensive reinforcements next season.

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill was one of the rumoured targets in the final days of the summer transfer window last year, so it will be interesting to see if Liverpool will revisit their previous targets or focus on other defenders who have shown quality over the last 12 months.

Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite, Bournemouth titan Lloyd Kelly and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi are all claimed to also be on Liverpool’s defender shopping list this summer, to name just a few.

It appears that change is coming thick and fast on the red side of Merseyside with player contracts running down, fresh faces being scouted and a new manager with a new philosophy soon to enter the building, but will it be a success for Slot? Only time will tell.
