The replacement for Peter Schmeichel only made 4 appearances between the sticks for United and that may four too many on the evidence of his abysmal performances. He marked his debut against Liverpool with a flap at a free-kick allowing Sami Hyypia to score. From then on, things went from bad to worse. Against Southampton, the Italian let a Matt Le Tissier ‘pea-roller’ squirm underneath his body. He was to concede goals in his next game against Chelsea which unsurprisingly proved to be his last game for the club.
